Remembrance Ceremony

The Lake Forest Fire and Police Departments will be performing a Remembrance Ceremony to commemorate fallen comrades at 0900 to 0930 in Market Square on the 6th Anniversary of the terrorist attacks September 11, 2001.
The 9/11 Community Remembrance provides us with the opportunity to recognize the many instances of heroism, bravery and generosity which have reflected back so strongly on all Americans since that day. A salute to our community leaders, civic officials, military personnel, firefighters, law enforcement, public works, park district, and citizens alike.

East Lake Academy Golf Outing

On the morning of September 14, 2007, East Lake Academy will hold its sixth annual golf outing at the Deerpath Golf Course in Lake Forest. The shotgun event starts at 8 a.m. and features former Michigan State and Chicago Bears linebacker, Jim Morrissey.
The golf registration fee is $200 per person, while foursomes may register for $700. The fee includes greens fees and cart, breakfast, lunch, awards and prizes, including a hole-in-one car (Volvo XC90 SUV) from Fields Auto Group, $1200 of gift cards from Abt Electronics for the wininng foursome, discount certificates from C&M Auto and more. Golfers of all abilities are welcome; however, the field is limited to 80 players.
The event helps to maintain East Lake's commitment to a strong academic and character formation program for students from communities throughout Lake and northern Cook counties. Currently, East Lake offers a pre-Kindergarten program for three and four year olds through grade six. This event will raise funds for educational equipment, extracurricular activities, scholarships and operating expenses for one of the fastest growing Catholic schools in the Chicago area.

John Gill & Concert

Winner of Parent's Choice Awards for his recordings and honored with the Notable Children's Recording Award by the American Library Association, Jim Gill is a child development specialist with 20 years of experience. This concert is the perfect outing for preschool classes and for a special time together for a preschooler and parent.

On Saturday, September 22, Lake Forest Squash will dedicate two additional converted courts located at 400 Hastings Road in Lake Forest doubling current playing capacity. Funding for the construction project, completed over the summer months, was provided solely through patron donations. Lake Forest Squash is the nation's only public squash program, affiliated with the Lake Forest Parks and Recreation Department, and is open to all.
A sanctioned tournament will run in conjunction with Saturday's dedication activities through the weekend, September 21-23. Junior and adult players may register for the pre-season warm up event at www.LFRec.com.
Court dedication activities will include a pro exhbition featuring US national team member and naturalized American pro Michael Puertas, a referee clinic, production demonstrations and raffle prizes. The YWCA Lake County proudly announces Editorial Director of Essence Magazine, Susan L. Taylor, as luncheon keynote speaker for the 2007 Circle of Women Fundraiser at the Crowne Plaza Chicago North Shore, 510 E. Route 83 in Mundelein. Taylor will be giving her presentation, "A New Vision for Women: Healing and Empowering Ourselves". The YWCA has expanded the Circle of Women event to include a free symposium in the morning followed by a mega networking session and then the luncheon with Taylor as keynote speaker. Ms. Taylor will stay following the luncheon for book sales and autographs. The educational symposium, "Discovering Your Vision of Financial Independence" will include an interactive discussion with a panel of experts consisting of a personal coach, psychologist, credit specialist, and financial experts.

This class is a foray into the utterly fascinating, if open misunderstood, Middle Kingdom and is devoted to the identification and ecology of mushrooms, bracket fungi and other strange and beautiful organisms. Join Ray Wiggers, noted botanical author and educator, for a short classroom review of mushroom biology and ecology followed by a stroll at the gloriously fungiferous McCormick Ravine. Bring your favorite mushroom guidebook; other course material will be provided. This class is part of the Adult Natural History Series and will be held at the Lockhart Family Nature Center.
