Hoops, Heroes & Harlem Ambassadors
Time: 6:00pm
Lake Forest and Lake Bluff celebrities and community heroes take on the "Harlem Ambassadors". This traveling co-ed team will dazzle us with their ball-handling tricks, highflying slam dunks and hilarious family comedy. Our Hometown Heroes celebrity team wil play in a competitive game, and a group of local personalities will play a "fun" game with the Ambassadors.

This great event promotes healthy lifestyles, family togetherness, and the love of sports. The event will also support two great organizations: LEAD and CROYA.

Students - $10.00
Adults - $15.00
Children under the age of 4 are free.
An adult must accompany all children under the age of 12.

Doors open at 6 p.m.
Food and concessions from 6 - 7 p.m.
Basketball show and game 7 - 9 p.m.

Deerpath Middle School in the Peck Gym West Deerpath Road (enter through the back cafeteria off of Hastings Road).

Purchase a raffle ticket to benefit LEAD & CROYA! 1 for $5, 3 for $10, 5 for $20. You will be entered to win an authentic Brunswick foosball table worth $1000, a signed Bulls Jersey, or a basketball signed by the Harlem Ambassadors.

Volunteer workdays are a terrific way to learn about the natural areas of Lake Forest while helping out with some much-needed restoration. Please wear tough clothing and appropriate footwear. Symphony Guild Guest Artist Tea
Time: 1:30pm
The Lake Forest Symphony Guild will host a guest artist tea in anticipation of the symphony's concerts on October 12th and 13th. The tea will feature Maestro Alan Heatherington, Music Director of Lake Forest Symphony and pianist, Jorge Federico Osorio, the symphony's guest soloist. Osorio will speak to the group about his work as a professional musician and also include a short performance.

Guest Artist teas are open to all and hosted in local private homes. The admission charge is $10 per person for non-Guild members. To learn more about the event, including the location and driving directions, contact Guild President, Betty Benton at 847-234-5279.

LF Symphony Concert
Lake Forest Symphony, under the musical direction of Alan Heatherington, will kick off its golden anniversary season at the James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts in Grayslake on the College of Lake County campus. Pianist Jorge Federico Osorio will be the featured soloist. The concert will begin at 8 p.m., with a free pre-concert lecture by music researcher and composer Jim Kendros offered at 7 p.m.

Lake Forest Symphony's program will include the Brahms Piano Concerto No. 1 in d minor for piano, Op. 15 and Dvorak's Symphony No. 9 in e minor (From the New World). Northern Trust Bank/Lake Forest is the concert sponsor and Lake Forest Symphony Guild is the Guest Artist sponsor. Following this season premier concert, there will be a free reception for Symphony patrons to celebrate the Symphony's 50th anniversary season and to honor returning members of the Symphony family who have participated as musicians, staff, volunteers, board members and supporters. This reception will be held in the Lumber Center lobby.

Single tickets for the concert are $45, $35 and $25 with senior and student discounts available. Tickets may be purchased by calling the Symphony office at 847-295-2135 or online at www.lakeforestsymphony.org.

Halloween Grotto Night

Gorton's annual special dance for 6th graders in the Lake Forest and Lake Bluff communities will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. The Halloween theme will feature the great DJs from Bizar Entertainment. School dress and conduct codes will be adhered to, and the evening will be chaperoned by experienced volunteers. (To offer your time for the evening, please call Barb at 847-234-6060, X224. Gorton could not host this event without the generous volunteer time given by local parents!)

Wine Tasting and Auction
Time: 6:00pm
Join Gorton Community Center and Wine Spectator award-winning South Gate Cafe and Bank Lane Bistro to sample wines from high-quality boutique wineries, generally not available in our region, accompanied by delicious hors d'oeuvres prepared under the direction of Executive Chef John des Rosiers. Tasting wines will be available to order for future enjoyment. Artisan cheeses will be sampled. The silent auction will feature very special wines in collections, small verticals, or of very limited production, overnight stays at wineries, and other wine experiences and items. The live auction will feature wines of very rare and special value, large formats, and special wine experiences.

Reservations are limited and will be processed in the order received. Business casual attire. All proceeds benefit Gorton Community Center.

6:00 - 7:30 p.m. wine tasting and silent auction; 7:30 p.m. live auction.
Cost: $50 per person to September 30. $60 after September 30.

Pink Rabbit Ball

The Vliet Museum of Lake Bluff History celebrates 25 years of bringing history to life when the Pink Rabbit Ball returns to Lake Bluff at Pasquesi Home and Gardens with the Derrick Stout Orchestra and Daily Grind Catering.

Let your creative spirit take hold and show what you perceive a Pink Rabbit to be. In support of this year's Pink Rabbit Ball, the Vliet Board is sponsoring a "Pink Rabbits on Parade" contest. Families, individuals and community groups are invited to create a Pink Rabbit -- your interpretation of what a Pink Rabbit is -- to display throughout town in October. Winning entries will be auctioned at the Pink Rabbit Ball on Saturday October 20th.
